Johnny Depp, Movie Star and Acclaimed Actor

Johnny Depp is a rarity in modern Hollywood - a superstar actor who is just as popular with the critics as he is with moviegoers. Whether they are small independent films or worldwide blockbusters, Johnny Depp movies are predicatbly great.

Born in Kentucky in 1963, Johnny Depp found early success on television's "21 Jump Street" and smaller parts in films like "A Nightmare on Elm Street" and "Platoon" before branching out as a leading man with roles in films like John Waters' "Cry Baby". In 1990, Johnny Depp entered into what would become a long and profitable collaboration with director Tim Burton. Their first effort together, "Edward Scissorhands", was an early glimpse of the actor's impressive skills, and from there Johnny Depp became a respected, and sometimes troubled, actor and movie star.

The critical acclaim for Johnny Depp movies continued with roles in such films as "What's Eating Gilbert Grape", "Ed Wood" and "Donnie Brasco". He continued working with Tim Burton on films like "Sleepy Hollow", "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", "Sweeney Todd" and "Alice in Wonderland".

Johnny Depp has received three Academy Award Nominations, and was nominated seven times for a Golden Globe before winning for his eighth-nominated role in "Sweeney Todd".

In 2003, Johnny Depp became a bonified blockbuster movie star with the release of the first film in Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl". That film went on to earn $650,000,000 worldwide, and each of its sequels brought in a billion dollars each! For his performance in the billion-dollar-grossing "Alice in Wonderland", Depp was reportedly paid $50,000,000 - ten-times the salary he had received just 13 years earlier for "Donnie Brasco", and five-times more than for his first turn as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates franchise.

I love his roles in A Nightmare on Elm Street , Finding Neverland and especially one of the Gangster in Public Enemies. It is surprising to know that the Public Enemies was a flop. I thought johnny's performance in the movie was much better than any of Pirates of Caribbean movies.
